She uses her mother's name as a tribute to her mother's love and support.

Career

Mallika became popular for her show of skin and several kisses in her movie Khwahish (2003] which was, by Indian standards quite scandalous, as it featured seventeen on-screen kisses. Later that year, she starred in Murder, again a film that raised eyebrows, since she showed a lot of skin. [1]. She was nominated in the 'Best Actress' category in the Zee Cine Awards, for her part in Murder. She has also been in the news for a short appearance in a Jackie Chan film, The Myth. She appeared at the Cannes film festival in a revealing outfit as part of the publicity for the film.

In July 2004, the Bollywood film producers' union IMPAA temporarily blacklisted Mallika. Filmmaker Ramesh Sharma complained that she had committed a breach of contract when she failed to turn up, as promised, for the filming of Kab Kyun Kahan (started in 1999). [2]

Mallika, who has earned her reputation by shocking the Indian middle class, was the first Indian woman to get an offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine. She turned down the offer, citing her morals and upbringing.
The intrepid Mallika Sherawat has an unlikely supporter in Sushmita Sen who is quite impressed with her "spirit and spunk". "I really think she has a lot of spirit and spunk and tremendous audacity," Sushmita told IANS. "To have come from where she has and to establish her own identity, and to have that kind of spirit couldn't be easy. But she has done it," she added.

Tell her Mallika speaks of Sushmita as some kind of a role model, and the actress smiles. "Really? I haven't met Mallika but the little that I know of her, I like her."

Mallika, who is transcending borders with Bill Bannerman's "Unveiled", seems to subscribe to Sushmita's school of thought.

"I don't know what Mallika's thoughts are. But I feel every role I've played so far has been a stepping stone towards the goal that I've set for myself. To get to a summit you need to climb step by step. I think I've been climbing the stairs very steadily."

Talking about her journey in Bollywood, Sushmita said that she knew she would have to work hard to reach the top since the beginning. She never expected instant success. "Not for a minute did I believe I had to be Madhuri Dixit just because I came into the film industry as Miss Universe. I knew I had to work hard to get there. Some people get there more easily than others. But that's life. Maybe I've made some major mistakes in my career. And I continue to make them even today. But that's part of the growing experience.
Mallika Sherawat is happy to star in Hollywood films. It is time for her to enjoy the yield for her hard work. Crazy fans of Manisha Koirala

Manisha Koirala literally got mobbed during the shoot for her forthcoming film Sirf- Life looks greener on the other side, releasing on 4th April. Film unit was shooting on the roof top of a building in Dharavi. Director Rajaatesh Nayar had erected a complete set of two flats on the 16th floor because these scenes required the view and skyline of Mumbai.

Naturally all the artistes needed to commute by the same lift along with the local residents. Laughs director Rajaatesh, "first day when we began shooting, we were waiting for Manisha. She said that she was almost there but even after two hours she hadn't reached the sets. By the time she came up, she was quite tired but smiling all the while. Manisha was delayed because all the building residents had caught her when she had got in the lift and were talking, taking autographs and clicking pictures with her."

That is when unit realized to make security arrangements and ensured that all the artiste were escorted properly to the rooftop residence for 11 days.

The film SIRF – life looks greener on the other side revolves around four couples played by Kay Kay Menon, Manisha Koirala, Sonali Kulkarni, Ranbir Shorey, Parveen Dabbas, Rituparna Sengupta, Ankur Khanna and Nauheed Cyrusi. On the sets of Ramesh Khatkar's TOSS, were present Ashmit Patel, Aarti Chabria, Prashant Raj, Ranvijay, Madhureema & Shruti Gera, Sushant Singh, which is being currently shot in Mudh Island. Sami(Prashant Raj), Josh(Ashmit Patel), Rayan(Ranvijay), Shasha(Aarti Chabria), Sherry(Madhureema) and Fiona(Shruti Gera) are close childhood friends and on one such returning from holidays to Goa they stumble upon chest full of money buried along with a human corpse. They are smart enough to calculate risk and the money but fail to do that in case of Human heart and DADA. Things go out of place before they realize that they have no control over human desire to greed and triumph. It changes their belief, relationships and everything they have had never thought off.
Today was shot the first fun filled opening scene of the film where all the six friends are having merry time on the beach. Ramesh Khatkar is an Ex- RGVian. He has contributed to films like Company, Jungle; Mast in the capacity of Chief Assistant Director. He is the story and Dialogue writer in Mast. TOSS is his Debut film as a Director. The film Toss projects the youngsters and circles around their attitude towards getting Big in life. Also comes along the side effects of the chosen path. The story beautifully paints the Modern scenario with lessons to be learned.

Zeenat Aman and Raj Babbar back together

Zeenat Aman and Raj Babbar back together after “Insaaf Ka Tarazu” in D S Productions “Dil To Deewana Hai” Zeenat Aman and Raj Babbar are back again, for the first time after “ Insaaf Ka Tarazu”. They will be seen together in “ Dil to Diwana Hai”, a D.S Productions film which is being directed by none other than Raja Bundela. Speaking on her role Zeenat Aman said, “When Raja Bundela approached me for this role I just thought that it would certainly be interesting to work with Raj Babbar again.” It would be worth mentioning Raj Babbar played a rapist in the movie “Insaaf ka Tarazu” and the chemistry with Zeenat Aman was a mega success on the screen.
Zeenat plays mother to Hyder Ali, Aamir Khan’s brother and Raj Babbar plays father to Sadaa, who makes her debut in Hindi Film Industry with this movie. Sadaa is hugely popular in Tamil and Telugu film Industry and has worked with the top league stars there. “Dil to Diwana Hai”, explores the changing mentality of the new generation, their attitude towards family values, traditions and the requirements of a bridge that can hold them between ethics and modern culture. “Dil to Diwana Hai” is all set to rollout in May ’08.

*Hyderabadi producer takes on Amitabh, Shah Rukh to assert Nagarjuna supremacy across India*

True Hyderabadi Sajid Qureishi takes on Bihari Ekta Manch and Amitabh Bachchan Fan Club to prove Nagarjuna as the Real Don No. 1. Qureishi, who is a regular at getting south films a national platform, was
besotted by the action and emotional film Don in Telugu, when he saw director Raghava Lawrence and the supreme Nagarjuna's amazing histrionics in the film. Being the kind who puts his money where his heart is, he immediately set out to get a national platform for the film. Sajid Qureishi invested in the film promotion what an ordinary producer will invest on making a small budget flick today. His mounting of the film worked and with posters, cutouts, ads and articles, Don No 1 got its platform cross country. Considering that Don No 1 starring Nagarjuna, is one film that will go down in history for its amazing mounting, Qureishi was sure that Nagarjuna whose film has grossed Rs 86 crore in 8 weeks just in Hyderabad alone, emerged as the Real Don No 1 with this film challenging to dethrone Big B, whom even apna SRK could not budge from his seat in the Hindi version.
Says he, "Nagarjuna in this Raghava Lawrence film is simply amazing. Don is a huge grosser in south, and the collections seem to be only ever-growing. I felt that Nagarjuna is the Real Don No 1." So Qureishi went on to release an ad in the trade putting in photographs of the earlier Don on top including Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty and SRK's flicks and with Nagarjuna sitting stylishly on his throne below, the ad read, "THE REAL DON NO 1".
The stories of the Hindi dons however are very different from Nagarjuna starrer Don where the hero is an Indian Robinhood of sorts. The story goes thus… Surya [Nagarjuna] is an orphan who rescues some street children from the clutches of a drug peddler. One of them happens to be Raghava Lawrence. They all become his followers and as Surya grows up to become a Don. Raghava assists the don in his work, and in turn Surya treats Raghava as his younger brother.
Says Sajid Qureishi, "There is a difference in the portrayal of this film Don. The film gives altogether a different meaning to the Word Don and the way it's been used to portray different character from time to time in Indian cinema. This isn't a remake, nor is it inspired. In fact Don No 1 in Hindi is an inspiration in itself. Here's the movie which has actually discovered the true don in Indian cinema. Nagarjuna, Unlike other dons who are bad guys in the films, this Don is a soft natured, honest and caring for everyone guy. He assists the people in distress and ensures that everybody is happy under his ruling."

Sajid Qureishi confesses that he was taken aback when he saw the film. "The look of the movie the production values, direction, songs, sequences, choreography was so amazing that all I could do is wonder that is this movie really made in India by an Indian, its looks no lesser then any Hollywood flick, and Nagarjuna was truly the Real Don No 1. That's when I decided to go full blast to promote the film and release it all over India the
production values are amazing and the way movie is treated is really is indescribable in words, it's a treat to watch and one has to see it to believe it."

But it sure isn't a cake walk for Sajid Qureishi, promoting this masterpiece wasn't easy at all, the Bihari Ekta Manch and Amitabh Bachchan Fan Club has served a legal notice to him claiming that the only real Don No1 is Mr. Amitabh Bachchan "and by calling south Superstar Nagarjuna as real Don no.1, Qureishi is degrading Mr. Bachchan." They have also objected to the advertisement which was published on the front page of a film based magazine COMPLETE CINEMA. Their contention is to the fact that "the magazine in its 16TH Feb. 2008 issue containing the photograph of Superstar Nagarjuna who is the main hero of Don No 1 and, plays title role and was introduced as Real Don No. 1, whereas, the photographs of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh khan and Mithun Chakraborty were published in small squares degrading them as they have also portrayed a role of Don in Past." But Sajid Qureishi remains unaffected. In fact, he is leaving no stone unturned to release this movie and he says "Nagarjuna is a real superstar and the Real Don No. 1. I don't have to say anything. The figures speak for themselves and it's for all to see. The casting of Don no.1 along with Megastar Nagarjuna and main villain opens the all-India market automatically for the film. And with word of mouth and the right publicity, will strongly say that Nagarjuna will not just be the Bollywood Don No 1, but the Hollywood Don No 1 as well!"

Kelly Dorjee, the stylish villain of the film is all praises for Nagarjuna as well. Says he, "Nagarjuna was a mentor for me. He is a gem of a person. I haven't come across such a humble person and with such a down-to-earth
nature in my entire life. He not only made sure that my performance was fine and my language perfect with the accent, as I am new to Telugu, but also he saw to it that I was comfortable around. He took me to his house, made me meet his family and I must say that his wife Amala is just so humble and hospitable, I never felt away from home or for that matter I was new in the city. No wonder then that he is revered in Andhra Pradesh. I am happy Don No 1 is getting a national release of this magnitude. I saw the first day first show hidden under a baseball cap as Nagarjuna told me "go see your future" and every time Nagarjuna came, I was zapped to see people screaming, shouting, whistling and going out of control just with and for a moment I got scared that what if people recognize me as I am playing the role of main villain in the film, so I decided to be careful and leave the hall before anyone recognizes me as I have an action sequence with Mr. Nagarjuna and I was sure that there would be one more inside the hall with Nagarjuna's fans beating me up." He laughs," never have I experienced such a huge fan following before, people worship him, its maddening, its crazy, and it makes you realise what a big star he is and you have to see it to believe it. I still feel breathless."

Mirchi Movies Limited, a subsidiary of Times Infotainment Media Limited (A Times Group Company) and Actor Anuj Saxena's production house Maverick Productions Pvt. Ltd. in association with Berlian films are co-producing a feature film titled "Aloo Chaat" starring Aftab Shivdasani and Aamna Shariff.

ALOO CHAAT went on the floors on Monday, 25th February. The film will be shot in Mumbai & Delhi.

Robby Grewal, who had directed Mera Pehla Pehla Pyar ('MP3') and Samay is directing ALOO CHAAT.

History has been the flavor of season for filmmakers of late. Bhagat Singh, Taj Mahal and Jodha Akbar are testimony to this trend. And the latest film in this series is Producer Anju R Patwa’s Athrava Art’s magnum opus “Royal Utsav”. Ravi K. Patwa directed and Iner Film & Shiv Hari Media presented Royal Utsav’s grandeur can be comparable to none but Jodha Akbar only.

Royal Utsav takes you back to 400 B.C.. It tells you the story of Alexander the Great, who having won the then known world, wanted to win India to become ………….. India was his last frontier but his army denied moving any further… Somehow he managed to win Kashmir but from there he was forced to return… On his way home he died. His dream of conquring whole India remained only dream as he believed that India being a different country could be won by the power to love instead of power of sword he possessed. Till here it was history, and now creeps in director Ravi Patwa’s imagination and liberty. History shows you should never tinker with reality…which the director either doesn’t know or has forgotten it, and dares to do the same in the name of cinematic liberty. In this film he shows that Alexander is reborn and returned in India and marries Rani Rupamati.

It’s premature to say anything about director’s atrocious play with history, but Film has every ingredients of a great entertainer. It has five songs. They are not only melodious but they have retro-classical touch also. …..

On his film, made with a budget of 10 Crore in Hindi, English, Tamil and Telgu, Director Ravi K. Patwa says, “We have spent a lot of money on this film and it is fully justified. Everything – Art, Costume, Music, Story --- is well researched. Its sets are too magnificent to put into words or just guess it.” He further goes on, “Film’s theme is ‘love doesn’t know any boundary’. I have tried to show that if two hearts confluence, there will be no borders and Love will rule the world. To make the film interesting I have taken a little bit of liberty and put in Alexander the Great’s reincarnation in India.”

Film has new artists but they fit in the character they are playing. Film has Vikram Kumar, Tripta Chopra,Ariek, Katharin, Antra Vishwas, Charu Arora, Monalisa, Sudesh Beri, Khalida, Abhshiek Sharma, etc. Screenplay and Dialogues are by Qamaruddin Falak. Sahil Rayyan’s lyrics have been composed by Vishnudeva. Cameraman is Jishwar Bidri.

Film is ready for April release and we hope that Royal Utsav doesn’t land in any controversy or gets banned for director’s atrocious liberty.

Nagarjuna, The Real Don No 1

Take a spoonful of Nagarjuna. The story goes thus. Surya [Nagarjuna] is an orphan who rescues some street children from the clutches of a drug peddler. One of them happens to be Raghava Lawrence. There is a difference in the portrayal of this film Don. Unlike other dons who are bad guys in the films, this Don is a soft natured, honest and caring for everyone guy. He assists the people in distress and ensures that
everybody is happy under his ruling, thus emerging to the modern day Robinhood of sorts.
Enter the villain, Stephen aka Sikandar (Kelly Dorjee) who is an international famed DON and after expanding his so called mafia kingdom, he eyes India.He approaches Surya and lures him to join him as a partner. But
Surya understands the evil intentions of the Stephen and refuses him. This irks Stephen, and his anger sets him to eliminate Surya and sets up a trap to kill him and expand his mafia empire.
The rest of the story revolves how Surya shields himself from Stephen and how he eliminates Stephen and saves the Andhra Pradesh and his followers.The climax is very interesting and must be watched on the silver screen.
Yuvasamrat Nagarjuna has performed as Surya the DON and looks very stylish with his lavish costumes. He justifies his part well and has done a good work. The character of his has been properly carved keeping in mind about his image. His dances and his expressions and of course his action skills is a sure to watch and highlight of this movie.
Raghava Lawrence on the other hand looks good in Direction and acting department and also as usual his dance talent is very well exposed. He manages to ignite some comedy and also manages to extract some laughter from the audience with some situational comedy.
The villain is perfectly apt and the director has done a good job by not casting any of the usual villains. Kelly is making his debut in Telugu industry. He has justified his character. Anushka's role is a sure sizzler and supports Nagarjuna well.
Music is again by Raghava Lawrence. The fights are fast-paced and are shot like in the Hollywood film matrix style and the violence is well-controlled. All in all, a sure visual treat.

Amisha Mehta heals special kids with colour grafitti and music at Kala Ghoda

Artist Amisha Mehta organised a music therapy session along with graffiti through colours workshop on a 15 feet long canvas on Feb 3, at The Kalaghoda Festival for Concern India Foundation's 15 street children. The theme was 'Inner Innusions Through Colour' where the children were made to experience live music from Aakar Solutions' Mr Vijay Worlikar and others. The children enjyed the colour play and music session alike.

"The music has a soothing effect on the brain cells, which in turn allows the body to let-go, and the level of therapy allows various moods of music. This takes one to different state of mind, whether love, joy, peace, melancholy... Art has its own level of de-stressing and when specially used with special colours that heal, as colours that have special healing qualities, when worked with, either through colour application or colour observation, bring about the changes at cell or even hormonal level."

Colour and msuic therapy work well together as music holds the mind, , and colour and art brings out the force from within. Adds Amisha, "all the visions desires, or even inner illusions, start flowing out on the canvas or paper thus unfolding inner self completely, leading to a clear and positive approach of oneself towards situations ahead."

One of the kids from the Concern India Foundation, Abhishek says, "I could never complete whatever I used to draw or paint, but today when Amisha madam asked me what I want to paint and asked me just to relax and enjoy the music first and then start working. I am glad that I finished four happy faces of jokers in a single session and I enjoyed playing with colours on canvas. Music helped me concentrate more on my work." Brinda Miller, the driving force behind the fest, avers, "Amisha Mehta supports the Kala Ghoda arts festival like its her own. We are happy to include happy people like her."

Bhushan Kumar's mega film "Karzzzz" was flagged off on 25th Jan '08 on the T-Series premises with a puja to introduce the entire star cast of the film.

Hosted by popular RJ and Anchor Siddharth Kannan, the event saw the presence of the original creator Subhash Ghai and the evergreen Rishi Kapoor himself, who shared their fond memories of the film and expressed their heartiest wishes to the present crew to make it an even bigger success. Also present to grace the occasion and seek the blessings of God and Subhash Ghai, were the cast and crew of the new film- Himesh Reshammiya, Debutante Shweta, Danny Denzongpa, Raj Babbar and Director Satish Kaushik, along with Mr. Bhushan Kumar, Mr. Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Tanya Kumar and Tulsi Kumar from T-Series. The stars started off the event with a small Pooja thanking God and went ahead to grace the stage and share their thoughts on the film.

Subhash Ghai considered it a proud moment that when Bhushan Kumar and Himesh approached him for the remake of this film. He said "It's a big compliment that they wish to bring the original film back to life." Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, Karzzzz is a remake of Subhash Ghai's 1980 film about reincarnation. Indra Kumar's daughter Shweta will make her debut with Karzzzz and play the lead role of Tina Munim opposite Himesh Reshammiya who will don Rishi Kapoor's role for the same. Urmila Matondkar could not be present due to sickness.

Bhushan Kumar finds his Lead girl for Karzzzz!!

Producer-Director Indra Kumar who has given us blockbuster films like Dil, Beta, Mann and the recent laugh riot Dhamaal will launch his daughter Shweta opposite Himesh Reshammiya in T-Series's Karzzzz. Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, Karzzzz is a remake of Subhash Ghai's 1980 film about reincarnation. Shweta will make her debut with Karzzzz and play the lead role of Tina Munim opposite Himesh Reshammiya who will don Rishi Kapoor's role for the same.

Kunal Khemu is fighting fit

There was some write up in a section of media about Kunal Khemu falling down in the gym and hurting his back. It is also written that the artiste is tied to the bed for two months by his doctor. "This is all untrue. I did have a small muscle pull but within two days I was back to normal. In fact I have even resumed my daily dose of workouts. My back is perfectly fine," says Kunal.

Halla Bol takes to streets

Presented and distributed globally by Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd., film Halla Bol has used a unique and interactive marketing opportunity. Since the film is vocal about man's inner conscious, Halla Bol is reaching the common man through street plays. Comments spokesperson from Pyramid Saimira, "regular modes of marketing have been used over and again. Reaching the real viewer through street theatre will be direct interactive marketing. We are taking the local issues and awaken the people about them. We are taking these plays to eight cities and in each city one artiste will accompany the theatre group." One of the artistes from Ajay Devgan, Vidya Balan or Pankaj Kapur will be representing the film during the street play in each city.

The street plays are organised and conducted by senior theatre personality Om Katare and his artistes. Theme of all the plays will gel with the core story line of the film. "Basically we are taking issues of common man like the local Municipal Corporation, illegal constructions, hospitals & health, and sexual harassment. These are the most written about but least tackled issues because there is no unity amongst the citizens. I as sutradhaar, will tell them to use their voice together in unison, to go ahead and Halla Bol against injustice. Be together in problems because what is one man's agony will become the second persons issue tomorrow. Do not keep quite," explains Om Katare about their script and plans. Says the producer Abdol Samee Siddiqui, "our street theatre will take the reel to the level of real. We have gone with Om due to his experience and exposure to street plays".

These plays will be taken to the cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahemdabad, Kolkotta and will culminate in Mumbai. Entire schedule will be held from 1st January to 10th January since Halla Bol is releasing on January 11th 2008.

Sub zero conditions and getting under rain

Sheetal Menon, the super model and Kingfisher calendar girl, is all excited about her first Hindi film 'Bhram- the illusion' with Dino Morea, Milind Soman and Simon Singh. Shooting of this film has been a unique experience for this pretty girl. The unit had gone to Manali for a good part of the shooting and it was Sheetal's first trip to Manali. The place was really cold and she was caught totally unprepared. But worst of all was during the shootings when everybody else except Sheetal was so well and warmly clothed. Being the heroine, Sheetal had to wear all deep necked tops and dresses and she would shiver all the time.

However, worst nightmare came when all four of them had to do a rain sequence in sub zero condition. "It was so chilly and windy and we all had to do this scene in the rain. Once water started pouring out, we were told to jump under it. Goodness me, it was like loosing all your senses. We could not even scream because our mouth refused to cooperate. As soon as the shot was over we were all wrapped in blankets. When we soaked our hands and feet in the hot water, we could not feel anything. For a short while we all thought that may be we have lost them," laughs Sheetal.

Smita Thackeray's Mukti Foundation's Ten on 9X Anti-Aids concert at MMRDA Grounds on Dec 1, World Aids Day, was a huge success with the stars turning up in droves. There was Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Lara Dutta, Udita Goswami, Sajid Khan, Kailash Kher, Sunidhi Chauhan, and a whole horde of performers besides little kids from different social organizations. Dharmendra, Ranbir Kapoor, Priya Dutt, Madhur Bhandarkar, Abbas Mustan, Annu Malik, Dalip Tahil, Rajpal Yadav, Aditi Gowitrikar, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea among others graced the occasion and spoke for the cause and Smita Thackeray's movement.

While Saif was content dancing and watching the programme with his son, Dharmendra complimented Smita on her movement and proudly donned a Aids Day badge from Smita. Making a comeback after a five-year hiatus in the film Aaja Nachle, Madhuri Dixit made a special and memorable appearance on the platform of Voice of India with a jig on the title track of Aaja Nachle along with the female contestants of Voice of India. She surprised the audiences by singing in perfect sur and taal a couplet from the film Aaja Nachle. She was present with her husband Dr Shriram Nene.

Her charismatic presence had the finalists Ishmeet Singh and Harshit Saxena, host Shaan, the eliminated contestants from Voice of India and the little singing sensations from STAR’s upcoming show Chottey Ustad belt out one hit song after another enthralling the audiences with their performances. Madhuri and the original ‘Voice of India’ Lata Mangeshkar sat in rapt attention seeing the song and dance extravangza presented at the finale.

Madhuri handed over the envelope containing the winner’s name to Lataji. Lataji announced that Ishmeet Singh had won and gifted him the trophy.

The Short Cut

Buzz18.com in association with Pritish Nandy Communications & Fun Cinemas had organized a short film contest " The Short Cut" and the grand finale for the same was held on Wednesday, 21st November at Fun Cinemas, Andheri.
The evening saw the screening of the best 10 films judged by a jury of four eminent personalities. The names include Prahalad Kakkar, Rangita Nandy, Ruchi Narain and Paromita Vohra.
There were 5 winners announced, however, no ranking was given to them.
Bijoy Nambiar was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000 and a film contract with Pritish Nandy Communications.

Stars flow at Gangotri party!

Industrialist Pappu Pittie and producer Deepak Sawant, in order to celebrate film Gangotri's release, hosted a party Club Millenium, Juhu on Nov 17. The event was graced by producer Deepak Sawant, director Abhishek, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, Sudesh Bhosle with wife Hema, Manoj Tiwari, Yogesh Lakhani, Bhumika with husband Bharat Thakur, director Abhishek and others graced the event.

Producer Deepak Sawant gave the Ganga, the biggest hit of the Bhojpuri cinema last year. This time out, Gangotri will be in both Bhojpuri and the Hindi versions. Says Sawant, "Gangotri starts where Ganga ends. The entire starcast is the same; it stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Tiwari, Bhumika Chawla, Aroona Irani and Kunal Singh."

Adds Pappu Pittie, "an interesting fact about Gangotri is that it will have glimpses of Ganga before the start of the movie. For the first time in a film, you will see recaps. We will show a five minutes recap of Ganga before Gangotri starts so that those who haven't seen Ganga will get a glimpse of the movie."

Pittie who was very much a part of Ganga as well, is elated that Gangotri has shaped as expected. "Mr Bachchan is at his best. He has emotions, songs and even great action sequences! I expect the film to do well just like our first film."

Adds director Abhishek, "Mr Bachchan is a director's actor. And echoing Mr Bachchan, the success of Ganga egged us on to make Gangotri. We are sure that Gangotri is the part of a never-ending flow for films for Bachchan fans!"

Interestingly, Gangotri will probably go down in history as the first film whose music releases after the film release! And an emotional Bachchan family complete with bahu launched the same.

Amrita Rao & her burkha experience

It was during the shooting of her Telugu film Athidhi in Hyderabad that Amrita wanted to go to Char Minaar and also shop in the famous Choori Bazaar. Thinking that she will go unrcognised if she wore huge sun glasses and tied her hair back in pony, Amrita went to Char Minar with some friends. As soon as she got off the car, people recoginesd her and started mobbing her. She had to return without getting the chance to buy anything. That is when somebody came with the idea of using a burkha and Amrita went out once again. "I had such a great time. I climbed up on Char Minar, rubbed shoulder with everybody in the crowd, went to the Choori Bazaar and really shopped for so many bangles. They have lovely bangles and they are so different. I even went to shop for stone studded jewellery. It was fun talking to people without getting recognised and being myself again," laughs Amrita.

Amrita Rao has done romantic role opposite Mahesh Babu in Telugu film Athidhi. This film has done record breaking business in Andhra Pradesh and broken all previous records. This film has established her as the number one heroine in Telugu cinema.In Athidhi, Amrita rao's look is very different and sensuous. It is unlike her regular roles that she has done in Hindi film till now.

‘Bhojpuriya Bhaiya’ releasing in Mumbai

Bhojpuri film “ Bhojuriya Bhaiya” has been made by producer Sudip Pandey under the banner of Ramji Films and directed by Harry Fernandes. It was Ravi Kissen and Manoj Tiwari who ruled the Bhojpuri film world for past many years. Now, their kingdom has been challenged, for many it has been even conquered, by Sudip Pandey . The biggest hits of the year in Bihar Sudip Pandey’s ‘Bhojpuriya Bhaiya’,Now releasing in Mumbai on 23rd November 2007.

‘Bhojpuriya Bhaiya’ is Sudip Pandey’s debut film… and he has hit the bull’s eye with this. People are of the opinion that Sudip is first complete hero of Bhojpuri film Industry. He has everything what need to be in the personality of a hero – Casanova like physique, Travolta like dance and power to execute any role with perfection.

“ Bhojuriya Bhaiya” is family drama based on relation between Saas (Mother-in-law) and Bahu(Daugher-in-law). Film tells the story of Raja’s (Sudip Pandey) sister (Joyti Anand) who gets married to a soldier Vinajy Anand. Soon after marriage, Vinay goes to war. Now Jyoti’s mother-in-law (Roshan Khan) starts creating problems for Jyoti, for no fault of she is beaten and cursed. Roshan’s step son doesn’t like his step mother’s behaviour, so, he, along with Sudip, decides to teach a lesson to step mother. This is a simple story which explores very deep in the relation of Saas – Bahu.

Sudip hails from Bihar and is a software engineer. His passion from film brought him back from America and stirre him to produce a film. “Being a social film with a problem concerning every family is capable of moving every heart”, Sudip stresses.

Ludhiana Bomb blast victims

King of Bhojpuri films Manoj Tiwari recently visit to Ludhiana city where he distributed Rs. 25-25 thousand to each dead person’s family. Not only that he also gone to Christian Hospital and given Rs. 10-10 thousand to each major injured persons and Rs. 5-5 thousand to normal injured persons. Injured persons also tells when and how bomb blast was happened there in that show. On October 14 when a blast ripped through Shingaar Cinema killing six people and injuring more than 20, it was a Bhopuri film, ‘Janam Janam Ke Saath’, that the victims had gone to watch at the theatre. Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari, who had promised relief to the victim, distributed money among the victims. When the actor reached the theatre a large number of people were there to get the actor’s glimpse. As Tiwari waved at the crowd, they broke into thunderous noise and loud cheers.
Manoj Tiwari said Rs 25,000 is no big amount for the victims but his visit was aimed to spread the message that "nobody would be able to induce fear in the minds of these migrants from UP and Bihar". Tiwari, who was accompanied by his former co-star Urvashi Chaudhary and BN Tiwari, director of his latest movie Hanuman Bhagat Havaldar.

Now Neha Dhupia too has taken a similar route, though just for a song, for her upcoming film RAMA RAMA KYA HAI DRAMAAA. For this comedy directed by Chandrakant Singh, Neha Dhupia has danced to a tune set in the 60s which is titled 'Khwabon Se Nikal Ke Tu Aaja'. Her costumes as well as dance steps are reminiscent to the 60s era with fluorescent colors, hair band and overall outdoor setting reminding of the era gone by. Crooned by Alisha Chinai, the song is written by Kumaar and composed by Siddharth-Suhas. The film is looking at a 7th December release.

It was a serious schedule on the sets of Mittal Versus Mittal, with courtroom drama at its strongest and fireworks erupting between Rituparna Sengupta and Rohit Roy and their representative lawyers Gulhan Grover and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. But off camera, the team of Dinesh Chugh's Mittal Versus Mittal was at its festive best, enjoying Diwali complete with firecrackers.

Nana has already performed Tarzan - like death - defying stunts for Abdol Samee Siddiqui's 'HORN..OK..PLEASsss' during the course of a crucial action-packed spell at Filmcity. Delhi High Court

Super Cassettes Industries Limited (SCIL), the No. 1 Music Company of India releasing music under its well known label T-Series, has moved the Hon'ble High Court Of Delhi against YouTube LLC and its parent company Google Inc. on account of rank infringement of its copyright in music by these companies.

YouTube.com, a website owned and controlled by Google Inc., has gained tremendous popularity over the past two years. YouTube invites and encourages its members to upload videos (including music videos from Films and Music Albums) on YouTube.com that are accessible to anyone surfing the web for free while YouTube and Google Inc., earn substantial revenues from advertisements on the website. The business model of YouTube thus allows, encourages and profits from use of copyrighted work uploaded on the website without obtaining any license or permission from the rightful copyright owners and without paying them any royalty.

On November 5, 2007 the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi, after hearing Amit Sibal, counsel for SCIL, issued notice and summons against YouTube LLC and Google, Inc. in a suit filed by Super Cassettes Industries Limited and passed an interim order restraining them from reproducing, adapting, distributing, communicating, transmitting, disseminating or displaying on their websites or otherwise infringing in any manner any audio visual works in which the SCIL owns exclusive, valid and subsisting copyright. Thus, by this order Hon'ble High Court of Delhi has granted an injunction against the business practice of Youtube of earning profits at the expense of a rightful copyright owner.

During the course of hearing on 5th November, 2007 Amit Sibal, counsel for SCIL, said that SCIL's revenue comes from manufacturing and selling DVDs, CDs and audio cassettes of its copyrighted music and from royalties collected by licensing the copyrighted music to hotels, restaurants, television companies, radio stations, telecom operators and internet websites. YouTube LLC and its parent, Google Inc., have on their website YouTube.com been showing videos of SCIL's copyrighted songs without SCIL's license or permission. Sibal argued that YouTube and Google profit at SCIL's expense by showing SCIL's songs for free to the public, while displaying advertising on the screen and collecting revenue from the advertisers based on the number of hits on the site. The profits from this business model, which is based on copyright infringement, are enormous, as is indicated by the fact that Google paid USD1.65 billion in stock to acquire YouTube LLC. He submitted that YouTube has caused tremendous loss of revenue to SCIL by infringing its copyright.

"TSeries is the largest music company out of South Asia with our catalog spanning 16 languages across several hundred thousand music tracks including music videos. There are websites who encourage unlicensed sharing and distribution of copyright content, which is a new form of piracy in the digital medium. Copyright is the engine of creative output of popular content. We have to ensure that the incentive to create and distribute popular content is protected from these large corporates which are trying to profit by destroying the value of the hard work of thousands of artistes, for whom their creative output is perhaps their only source of livelihood."

After impressing one and all with her electrifying performance in Shimit Amin's Chak De, Sagarika Ghatge aka Preeti Sabarwal of the Chak De team is excited about the career prospects her role has thrown open to her.

Contrary to the reports that were published wherein it was mentioned that Sagarika would be part of Balaji Motion Picture's next titled Mission Istanbul directed by Apoorva Lakhia, who is basking in the success of his film Shootout at Lokhandwala, Sagarika begs to differ. Speaking about it, she says, "There is no truth in the recent reports that I am doing Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul. On the contrary, I'm awaiting confirmation of certain other projects which are still in the discussion phase."

Excited about the way Chak De has thrown open new possibilities for her, Sagarika further adds, "I was always sure that Chak De had a powerful theme that would make a difference. But, what surprised me most is that it surpassed my expectations by lapping up immense popularity in India and abroad."

Payal Rohatgi is a real one day girl. No, we are not speaking about cricket matches but her film career. The 'One Day Girl' tag that she has acquired of late, is attributed to her ability of wrapping up complex song sequences in a days work.

So, recently, the actress was quizzed on a popular TV chat show as to how she managed to complete song sequences in her films Corporate and Dhol in a single day? Payal was prompt to reply, "I think for an upcoming actress the biggest challenge is that sometimes there are situations when she has no luxury of rehearsals. It happened with me too, but by God's grace I pulled off the entire sequence in one go with sheer faith in my abilities and everyone on the set was absolutely stunned to see the act."

Though she thinks it's her self belief which propels her to make complex situations smooth, but at the same time Payal doesn't want such situations to develop into a trend. Adds she, "In future I want to make it clear to my producer's that I can put on a better performance in a relaxed environment, rather than rushing through things without proper rehearsals. But, as long as my impromptu ability is with me, I can perform in any given situation", she adds smilingly.

Sagarika Ghatge, best remembered for her performance in Chak De as Preeti Sabarwal is getting noticed in a big way, thanks to the ripple effect her act has created. The latest about the lady is that she will be the official face behind the sports brand Reebok's freshly launched Lifestyle stores.

Excited about the new development, Sagarika says, "I think it's the first time that Reebok is having a female face to endorse its Lifestyle clothing. Moreover I will be sharing space with the likes of Rahul Dravid, who is also the brand ambassador for Reebok. My endorsement contract will be for one year with the company", she adds.

After the success of Chak De, there are many producers who have approached Sagarika for their forthcoming films, but the actor is taking her own time to freeze on a good script. Says she, "After doing Chak De, I want to make sure that my next film is equally popular. So, I am waiting for the right script to come my way", she adds.

How Rohit turned Mittal

Rohit Roy sure is one serious actor. In fact when he took on the grey-shaded role in Desh Chugh's Mittal Verss Mittal where director Karan Razdan touches the taboo topic of marital rape, Rohit actually made sue he did his homework first.

"I read the domestic violence act.first and then the script ten times before doing the film," he confesses.

Next, the actor went on to speak to a lawyer a mastermind in temrs of domestic violence. "She is also one who tries and solves issues. Mariages do not normally work as both husband and wife are unaware of what the core problem is. Both have their points of view. This kind of gives you an insight on how to work on your character," elaboates Rohit.

Smilie Suri make-over

During the shooting of 'N Chandra's Breaking News' Smilie Suri's first shot was in a big chawl in Charni road. Before the shot, spot boy came and wired her properly with a big mike anchored behind her. "I didn't know why they were wiring me so much. They had secured a big mike behind me with wire, something like what is used in plays. I was wearing a loose nighty, so it did not show. My first shot was fine and Only then my co star Purab came and told that the film is shot in synch sound where no dubbing is required. He had not told me earlier because I would have got very scared. Imagine that after sitting at home for 8 months I get a film that needs theatrical expertise from the artist to deliver. Since my first take was good I was now confident, but I am happy because everybody who has seen the film, is liking my work."

Smilie Suri, the Kalyug girl is going through a make over. Laughs the young heroine, "Somehow in Kalyug my appearance was very desi because that was the kind of role I was doing. In "N. Chandra's Breaking News" also I am playing a middle class Maharshtrian girl sporting Salwar Suits, but that's not me. I am a hard core Mumbai girl."

Actress and activist Vani Tripathi, is addicted to acting. It may be that she faces the camera or she can direct the children at National School of Drama workshop in Delhi, but at heart this lady is an actress. "Even as the state incharge for BJP Yuva Morcha for Goa, Daman and Deeyu and Cultural secretary for Maharashtra, my plan is to do Street Theatre to bring awareness on empowerment of woman and youth. Educate them about their right to information. I want to tackle various impending problems through plays because it is the best medium to get attention," comments Vnai. Lady is extensively touring her constituency to gather information and firsthand experience of the problems locally. "I will also be taking the current problem of farmer's suicide."

Vani is also the co-producer with Himalay films and has co produced 'Chetan Anand- poetics of Cinema' with Ketan Anand. She is also involved with other films from the production house. An actress with a mission, Vani is also taking the issue of Piracy head-on. She has given lectures at colleges and addressed the issue with presentations and talks.

Why is she not doing television these days? "Because it has become very disappointing. I would rather do a docu-drama then get into sas bahu politics of television. I have had offers but I could not reconcile myself enough to do justice to the characters," she laughs.

Manoj Tiwari in Gurudwara

Recently Sikh community was organized a Manoj Tiwari “Mridu” Nite in a Gurudawara in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Where not only Sikh community was present but also peoples of other community was present. On last Monday of Shrawan month a programme of Manoj Tiwari was organized where about 80,000 audience was present. On this holy occasion Manoj Tiwari was sung Bhagwan Shiv’s related Bhajan and song and perform too with his team of 16 persons. Actor Surendrapal was also there. Because of midterm election government was not given permission for night so this programme was organized in day time. It’s a good sign for Manoj Tiwair that he will catch to all community.

Hannsikaa Features In Divya Khosla Kumar’s Next Video

Hannsikaa, the star of Himesh Reshammiya’s Aap Kaa Surroor-The Moviee, has featured in the next music video directed by Divya Khosla Kumar. The video ‘Ishq Na Karna’ was shot in Mumbai and is the third video from the album “ Phir Bewafaai”, where Hannsikaa has been paired opposite Gaurav Kakkar. The song has been sung by Agam Kumar Nigam along with Tulsi Kumar. Divya Khosla Kumar has already directed an earlier video, ‘Woh Kisi Aur Se’ from the same album. Divya Kumar Khosla says, “When I heard Agamji’s album “Phir Bewafaai”, it touched and entered my soul; it was so haunting. Most of us go through betrayal in love. This feeling was something both of us could identify with & I wanted to create something very emotional & touching, thus I worked on the concept of ‘Ishq Na Karna’. “Phir Bewafaai” is a compilation of 10 romantic ballads with moving compositions written by Praveen Bharadwaj and Prashant Vasl. The Music Director is Nikhil while the Choreographer is Seemaa Desai. The Cinematography is by Vinod Gandhi. Agam Kumar Nigam’s ‘Phir Bewafaai’ is a sequel to the hit album ‘Bewafaai’ that was released in 2004. The first video in ‘Phir Bewafaai’ is called ‘Woh Kisi Aur Se’ and the lyrics have been penned by Praveen Bharadwaj and Prashant Vasl. The Music Director is Nikhil while the Choreographer is Baba Yadav. The Cinematography is by Vinod Gandhi. The second Video ‘Har Kasam’ is directed by Arun Kumar.The album is produced by T-Series.
